DDC Direct Digital Control
Direct digital control (DDC) is the automated control of equipment using digital signals from programmable microprocessors, which are small computers. When DDC controllers are networked together they share information over a data bus and communicate with one another using software which may be customized.
In a commercial building the lighting and HVAC systems (such as dampers, fans, fan coils, VAV boxes, heaters, boilers, chillers and air handling units) are often digitally controlled. Devices such as temperature sensors, CO2 sensors, humidity sensors and occupancy sensors are also integrated into the system.
DDC controls can be quite sophisticated and can perform many functions such as: monitoring and controlling equipment, equipment and system diagnostics, providing alarms. There is usually a graphic computer interface so that the building operator can easily view and make adjustments to the building systems remotely via a personal computer.
There are many DDC equipment manufacturers. Kerr Controls Inc. is an Authorized Dealer for Reliable Controls and an Authorized Installing Contractor for KMC Controls.
