Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning (HVAC)

The three central functions of HVAC are heating, ventilation and air conditioning. The purpose of the HVAC system is to provide comfortable room temperatures and indoor air quality with reasonable installation, operation, and maintenance costs.

The HVAC system can provide ventilation, reduce air infiltration, and maintain pressure relationships between spaces. How air is delivered and removed from spaces is known as room air distribution, or air balancing.

HVAC systems are one of the largest energy consumers in commercial and institutional buildings with HVAC and lighting accounting for approximately 70% of a building’s energy usage. The type and design of the HVAC system can affect other building performance goals as well, including water consumption (by water cooled air conditioning equipment) and acoustics.

Modern HVAC systems are usually paired with computerized Building Automation Systems (BAS), also referred to as Direct Digital Control (DDC) systems or Energy Management Control Systems (EMCS).

A BAS can be used to monitor and control HVAC equipment to achieve significant energy savings, reduce maintenance costs and ensure building comfort. Ask us about the Reliable Controls MACH-System and KMC Controls KMDigital equipment lines.
